Start Working

Community

Relocating to a new place can be a challenge—but that’s exactly where the Start Working community in Pontremoli makes the difference.

From day one, you’ll be surrounded by people who not only share your remote-work lifestyle, but who are ready to welcome you into their world of helpful advice, shared experiences, and everyday support.

Whatever you need, the community is your anchor. The relationships you’ll build here will make your move not just easier, but genuinely enriching: from professional networking to real friendships, you’ll discover Lunigiana through the eyes of those who chose it before you.

The coworking space is located inside one of the 15th-century halls of the municipal building, right in the historic center of Pontremoli.

Provided by the Municipality of Pontremoli, it offers 8 fully wired workstations, plus 8 shared seats at a large meeting table, and a soundproof phone booth for video meetings and calls.

Use of the space is completely free.

This is more than an office—it’s a place to share everyday life, meet new people, and exchange knowledge and skills.

For more information or to request access, contact the Municipality directly at: coworking@comune.pontremoli.ms.it or call or call 0187 4601231.

Sport & Nature

In Lunigiana, sport and nature blend into a unique experience that changes with the seasons.

While local gyms and yoga studios offer the perfect indoor training refuge, it’s the surrounding landscape where the territory’s true magic unfolds.

The valleys of Lunigiana, with their ancient trails, invite you to explore breathtaking paths through forests and Apennine ridges. The adrenaline of river trekking in the Stretti di Giaredo—an incredible natural gorge carved by water—alternates with mountain-bike routes winding through medieval villages and ancient castles.

Here, every hike becomes an adventure: from gentle riverside walks along the Magra to challenging climbs toward Monte Molinatico, nature offers endless possibilities for those who love the outdoors, always framed by the majestic Apuan Alps on the horizon.

Events

The magic of Pontremoli and Lunigiana lives through its events, which transform the villages into stages of ancient traditions and celebration. These aren’t just events—they’re moments when the community gathers and tells its story.

La disfida dei falò

Pontremoli’s bonfire challenge is the most spectacular winter event in Lunigiana. Massive fires rooted in centuries-old traditions light up the riverbeds of the Magra and the Verde, burned in honor of San Nicolò (January 17) and San Geminiano (January 31).

Held every August, Medievalis commemorates the imperial charter granted by Emperor Frederick II in 1226, recognizing Pontremoli as a “clavis et ianua”—a key and gateway between Lombardy and Tuscany.

Thanks to the Compagnia del Piagnaro, the town transforms for five days into a full medieval setting: cars disappear from the center, replaced by wanderers, merchants, carriages, and knights.

A twice-a-year food & wine tour through the streets of Pontremoli, celebrating traditional flavors.
In the latest edition, **1,387 participants** challenged each other in a culinary journey marked by testaroli, Amor pastries, and Bianco Oro.

In the medieval heart of Mulazzo, every August since 1983, Bancarel’Vino celebrates Lunigiana’s wine tradition. Combining a prestigious wine competition with tastings and cultural events, the village becomes a lively meeting point for experts and enthusiasts alike.

Start Talking

StartTalking is Pontremoli’s unmissable monthly event to discover new places, curiosities, languages, and people!

Just 1 km from the town center, Pontremoli is home to the Sant’Antonio Abate Hospital, equipped with an Emergency Department, various specialist services, and inpatient wards such as General Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Sub-Intensive Care, and Hemodialysis. Thanks to its helipad, the hospital is also rapidly connected to other medical facilities in the area. There is also a Local Health District operating from two locations (Via Mazzini and Via Cabrini), offering General Practitioners, specialist services, and family counseling. Ambulance services and many other forms of social assistance are provided by the local Misericordia chapter, highly active thanks to its staff and numerous volunteers.

Pontremoli also offers a full range of professional and administrative services: banks and financial institutions, insurance agencies, postal services, accountants, notaries, labor consultants, assistance centers, and trade unions. For everyday needs, you’ll find supermarkets, grocery stores, pharmacies, clothing shops, stationers, and bookstores—all within walking distance from the center.

Associations

One of the most beautiful things about Pontremoli and the Lunigiana is the vibrant ecosystem of associations that keeps the area so lively and welcoming.

There’s truly something for everyone: from the historic Town Band that fills the streets with music, to the young creatives of Centro Teatro and LunicaFoto who bring the community together with shows, exhibitions, and cultural events. If you have children (or even if you’re grown-up but still adventurous!), the Agesci Scout Group is always ready for new experiences, while the Compagnia del Piagnaro brings local history to life with its reenactments.

And if you feel like giving back, Misericordia and Civil Protection groups are always open to new volunteers—here, volunteering is a natural part of community life and helps you feel part of something meaningful.

È proprio questo il bello di Pontremoli: qualunque sia la tua passione, è facile trovare un gruppo di persone pronte ad accoglierti e a condividere con te quello che amano fare.
